Jakarta, December 10, 2024 – Celebrating its 67th anniversary, PT Pertamina (Persero) continues to achieve milestones in supporting the nation's independence through energy self-sufficiency. These accomplishments align with the government's priority programs outlined in the vision and mission of President Prabowo Subianto's Asta Cita.
The President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri, stated in his speech at the Pertamina's 67th Anniversary Celebration today (10/12) in Jakarta that as an SOE, Pertamina holds the mandate to provide energy for Indonesia.
“For 67 years, Pertamina has continuously transformed, adapted, and served as the main driver of the societal wheels of life. It aligns with the government's energy self-sufficiency target to boost Indonesia's economic growth,” Simon explained.
Simon emphasized that Pertamina's integrated upstream-to-downstream business ensures national energy availability. Pertamina currently produces one million barrels of oil equivalent per day (BOEPD), contributing 69% of the national oil and 34% of gas production.
In the midstream sector, Pertamina manages six active domestic refineries with a total processing capacity of 920,000 barrels per day while expanding capacity through the RDMP Balikpapan Refinery Project. Pertamina’s refinery optimizations have made Indonesia self-sufficient in jet fuel and diesel.
In distribution, especially shipping, Pertamina operates 102 vessels serving energy transportation. The company has expanded its shipping business to cover 65 international routes, reflecting its commitment to strengthening Indonesia's energy security while enhancing its global presence.
In the gas sector, Pertamina manages over 33,000 km of gas pipelines, ready to deliver environmentally friendly natural gas. Additionally, Pertamina oversees more than 820,000 household gas network connections across 18 provinces and 74 regencies/cities. Through the gas network, Pertamina is committed to supplying natural gas to support the government's free nutritious meals program.
To ensure equitable energy distribution, Pertamina has built a robust energy infrastructure. Through infrastructure marketing, it has expanded the One Price Fuel program to 559 locations, managed 6,703 Pertashop outlets in remote areas, and achieved LPG distribution coverage in 96% of villages via the One Village One Outlet program. Pertamina also enhances services through digitalization, ensuring precise energy distribution.
Aligned with energy transition efforts, Pertamina continues to develop renewable energy projects with an installed capacity of 1,877 MW and geothermal production of 4,600 GWh. Pertamina is also a pioneer in carbon trading in Indonesia, commanding 95% of the national market share.
Simon highlighted that through energy distribution to various sectors nationwide, Pertamina has successfully driven economic growth. The company’s estimated contribution to the National GDP reached IDR 1,900 trillion as of October 2024. Pertamina also promotes domestic industrial growth through local content spending (TKDN), amounting to IDR 374 trillion in 2023, making it the largest TKDN contributor among state-owned enterprises at 47%.
Simon noted Pertamina's consistent positive contributions to the nation, making it the largest tax contributor. In 2023, Pertamina contributed IDR 304 trillion from taxes, dividends, non-tax state revenues (PNBP), and signature bonuses.
Pertamina’s business lines have shown positive performance, with unaudited revenues reaching USD 62.5 billion (IDR 989.6 trillion) as of October 2024. Simon expressed hope that this positive momentum will continue through year-end.
For all these achievements, Simon expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the government, stakeholders, and the public for their support. Simon also appreciates the previous Board of Commissioners and Directors who successfully brought Pertamina to this point. Simon also praised all Pertamina personnel who have been resilient in keeping the company's business moving forward and innovating.
“I deeply appreciate Pertamina employees for their tireless dedication, adaptability to changes, and commitment to keeping Pertamina strong and leading as a world-class national energy company,” Simon said.
Beyond its business focus, Pertamina actively contributes through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (TJSL) programs, benefiting 384,982 individuals. Key TJSL initiatives include programs targeting poverty alleviation, inequality reduction, and women’s empowerment, such as Sobat Berdikari UMKM, Enduro Entrepreneurship Program, Sehat Anak Tercinta dan Ibu (Sehati), Sobat Istimewa (Difabel), UMK Academy and SMEXPO.
Programs aimed at sustainable food systems and clean energy transitions include the Independent Energy Village, Independent Energy School, Sustainable Forests, Sustainable Agriculture, and Community-Based Waste Management programs.
With several superior TJSL programs, Pertamina has 91 Gold PROPER candidate programs in 2024.
“Pertamina has created a significant social impact. Since the beginning, Pertamina has not only run a business but also contributed to advancing society. We believe that economic growth is balanced with a positive social impact. And that is what we have done together,” Simon concluded.
Simon further explained that Pertamina is recognized internationally. Pertamina is the only Indonesian company ranked in the Fortune Global 500 2024 at 165th place and is 3rd in Fortune Southeast Asia in 2024.
The world's recognition of Pertamina on the global stage is growing stronger, as the company's ESG rating ranks first globally in the Integrated Oil and Gas sub-industry with the highest score of 20.6, leading other global companies. This position makes Pertamina particularly appealing to global investors.
Simon expressed his pride, stating that today, together with the company’s personnel, he is part of Pertamina’s history. Going forward, Simon hopes all divisions will continue to enhance their enthusiasm and energy to deliver the best for Indonesia.
“This 67-year journey has been neither short nor easy. We have overcome many challenges, and I am confident we will keep moving forward with an unyielding spirit. Our ultimate goal is achieving energy self-sufficiency for Indonesia,” Simon concluded.
Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina’s business lines and operations.**
