Leading the Energy Transition, Pertamina - Arizona State University Collaborate to Prepare Renewable Energy Leaders

Jakarta, October 3, 2024 - PT Pertamina (Persero) strengthens its commitment to achieving the Net Zero Emission (NZE) target by 2060 by preparing excellent human resources (HR) through the NRE (New and Renewable Energy) Academy program. This program synergized with the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University, as Arizona has become a hub for various eco-friendly energy development projects.

HR Director of Pertamina, M. Erry Sugiharto, stated that through the NRE Academy, Pertamina is empowering its employees, referred to as Perwira, to be proficient in renewable energy projects across Indonesia. With the NRE Academy, Pertamina employees are expected to expand their knowledge and give innovative solutions to address the energy challenges in Indonesia.

"As the leader of the national energy transition, Pertamina believes that human resources are the key to ensuring the success of this energy transition commitment," Erry said.

Erry added that the NRE Academy will enhance Pertamina employees' competencies in the new and renewable energy industry, such as technology development and NRE business opportunities, thereby strengthening Pertamina's low-carbon business lines. More than just theory, the employees directly engage in discussions with experts in the NRE field. These include Senior Director of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, Gary Dirks, and Director of LightWorks®, Nathan Johnson, Senior Global Futures Scientist of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, and Professor Allen Morrison from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, who serves as a facilitator for experiential learning.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that to optimize the development of Pertamina employees, the company is partnering with the Thunderbird School of Global Management at Arizona State University. It is because Arizona is now emerging as an epicenter of the green economy, aligned with various NRE activities in the region, such as hydropower, wind, solar, nuclear, and hydrogen energy.

"Through this collaboration, the NRE Academy holds great promise for Pertamina employees to innovate in the field of new and renewable energy, such as blue ammonia, sustainable aviation fuel, hydrogen blending exploration, and other projects with significant potential for development in Indonesia," Fadjar explained.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina’s business lines and operations.**
