Minister of Trade and CEO of Pertamina Patra Niaga Inspect Sealed Petrol Station in Sleman

Sleman, November 25, 2024 – To ensure optimal service standards at petrol stations, the Minister of Trade, Budi Santoso, and the CEO of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, inspected 44.555.08 petrol station on Kaliurang Toll Road KM 10, Sardonoharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), on Monday (November 25). The petrol station is currently under investigation and sealed.

The sealing of the petrol station follows an inspection by Pertamina Patra Niaga's Central Java Region and the Directorate of Metrology UPTD Sleman on November 13, which revealed suspected fuel dispensing fraud through unauthorized modifications to the fuel dispensers.

Budi Santoso commended Pertamina Patra Niaga for their swift action in conducting nationwide inspections of petrol stations in collaboration with local metrology units to ensure compliance with quality and quantity standards.

"I extend my gratitude to the Regent, Deputy Chief of Police, Pertamina Patra Niaga, and the Ministry of Trade for their efforts in uncovering these fraudulent practices that harm the public," Budi stated.

Following UU No. 2 of 1981 on Legal Metrology, measuring and dispensing equipment, including petrol station fuel dispensers, must undergo periodic inspections and be certified with seals.

"This petrol station underwent calibration in August 2024, with the certification valid until August 2025. However, the operator installed additional equipment in the dispensers to reduce the fuel volume delivered to consumers after the calibration. Such practices are intolerable," Budi emphasized.

CEO of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Riva Siahaan, disclosed that four other petrol stations out of 137 in the Yogyakarta area had previously been sanctioned. The sanctions included operational suspensions, final warnings, and instructions to replace all facilities' dispensers.

"We are taking firm action against violations and appreciate the Ministry of Trade's efforts. Pertamina Patra Niaga is committed to improving petrol station monitoring and consistently providing the best service to the public," Riva asserted.

Accompanying the inspection, the Marketing Director for the Regional Division of Pertamina Patra Niaga, Mars Ega Legowo Putra, emphasized the need for enhanced monitoring at petrol stations, particularly along high-traffic routes and rest areas, to ensure compliance with service standards, quality, and accuracy.

"We cannot tolerate such practices. However, the closure of this petrol station will not affect fuel availability in Sleman and surrounding areas, as we have optimized nearby stations to meet local demand," Mars Ega explained.
