Pertamina Eco RunFest 2024: Carbon Neutral Event to Reduce Emissions & Promote Sustainable Living Campaign
Jakarta, November 24, 2024 – The Pertamina Eco RunFest 2024, which took place at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday, November 24, 2024, is one of PT Pertamina (Persero)’s flagship programs in its decarbonization efforts. Not only is this the first running event in Indonesia to adopt the "Carbon Neutral Event" concept, but it also promotes sustainability and a sustainable living lifestyle throughout its activities.
Fadjar Djoko Santoso, Vice President of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, invited the public to take tangible steps towards environmental preservation. These efforts start with small actions, such as avoiding plastic bottle usage. Hence, water refill stations were set up at the event.
Another initiative is encouraging the public to participate in creating a "Zero Waste to Landfill Race & Festival." This effort encourages visitors to throw waste in the proper bins and separate it into organic and inorganic waste.
“To further advance this decarbonization effort, Pertamina has collaborated with Waste4Change, a responsible waste management company that manages waste from source to disposal, aiming to make Indonesia waste-free with a circular economy approach,” explained Fadjar.
During the event, Waste4Change implemented an integrated waste management system that includes waste separation at the source, collection, sorting, and recycling, ensuring that waste does not end up in the final disposal site (TPA).
Pandu Priambodo, Lead Marketing & Partnership of Waste4Change, noted that responsible waste management implementation is becoming increasingly widespread, with Pertamina being one of the companies leading the charge.
“We are pleased that Pertamina, a large state-owned enterprise, is also applying this at the Pertamina Eco RunFest 2024. We hope this becomes a necessity and a standard practice for every event. When events occur, even if there is waste, everyone should take responsibility for their waste,” he said.
One of the participants, Teguh Cahyadi, a resident of Bekasi, also appreciated this initiative. He found the event engaging, as he is part of an environmental community, a nature lover, and passionate about preserving the environment.
“I fully support Pertamina Eco RunFest 2024’s concept. It is a cool event. Especially since my home and workplace are in Bekasi, near Bantargebang (a landfill location), I am becoming more aware of the increasing amount of waste. That is why I completely support this event’s concept. We were informed about the importance of disposing waste properly and separating it for further processing so that each event can truly be Zero Waste,” he concluded.
The event also featured Eco Print and Eco Workshop booths, which offered creative activities using recycled materials, natural resources, and transforming them into attractive items such as bags, clothing, pouches, and other products.
The Pertamina Eco RunFest 2024 serves as an important platform to reaffirm the company’s commitment to decarbonization, responsible waste management, and promoting sustainable living.
