Pertamina's Inclusion Program Empowers Sobat Istimewa Ubud Community of People with Disabilities

Ubud, Bali, December 24, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero), through its subsidiary PT Pertamina Patra Niaga (PPN) Jatim Balinus, specifically the Aviation Fuel Terminal (AFT) Ngurah Rai operational unit, has initiated the "Sahabat Disabilitas Ubud Program." As part of the Sobat Istimewa initiative, which aims to empower the disabled community to become more independent and competitive, Pertamina has focused on enhancing the capacity of the disabled group under the Cahaya Mutiara Ubud Foundation.

Fadjar Djoko Santoso, VP of Corporate Communication of Pertamina, stated that 42 Sobat Istimewa members actively contributing to the foundation have received guidance from Pertamina since 2023. The guidance focuses on improving personal skills based on their existing potential, boosting self-confidence, and enhancing their capabilities.

“Sobat Istimewa is one of the communities that Pertamina pays special attention to in line with the inclusion program we implement as a sustainable company. Pertamina encourages the Sobat Istimewa community to become independent, excel as human resources, and even contribute to the nation's development,” explained Fadjar.

He added that Pertamina's assistance to the Cahaya Mutiara Ubud Foundation includes capacity development through training in sewing, digital marketing, and financial management. Pertamina has also worked on improving infrastructure and provided various forms of support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) development operated by Sobat Istimewa.

Through this program, Fadjar revealed that the businesses could generate an average annual revenue of up to IDR 60 million. Additionally, nine Sobat Istimewa members have entered the workforce, and 16 Sobat Istimewa members have achieved notable accomplishments in their respective fields. For instance, Nengah Wani, one of the members of Mutiara Ubud Foundation, who has been with the foundation since 2018, has become increasingly skilled in performing traditional Balinese dances and modern creations.

“Thanks to the support provided by Pertamina, my friends and I are more motivated. We have a platform to grow and develop. This program has also helped to eliminate societal stigma toward the disabled community,” shared Nengah.

Nengah Wani was also one of the performers during the President Director of Pertamina’s visit to the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) Uma Palak Lestari in North Denpasar, Bali. During this visit, Nengah and other dancers from Mutiara Ubud Foundation showcased traditional Balinese dances, receiving positive responses from the Pertamina Group Management present.

“With the mentoring and development programs from Pertamina, we have ultimately been able to create something that contributes to the well-being of our foundation, both individually and as an organization,” she remarked.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
