Supporting Energy Self-Sufficiency, PHE Discovers 1.8 TCF of Natural Gas Resources in Central Sulawesi

Jakarta, December 19, 2024 – Over the past seven years, PT Pertamina Hulu Energi (PHE), as Pertamina’s Upstream Sub-holding, has recorded in-place natural gas resources of more than 1.8 trillion cubic feet (TCF), equivalent to nearly 320 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE), from exploration discoveries in Central Sulawesi. These discoveries include gas findings in the Wolai-East Wolai, Morea structures, and the latest Tedong structure drilled in 2024.

This discovery demonstrates Pertamina's commitment to increasing reserves and meeting the demand for natural gas following economic growth. Natural gas is an environmentally friendly transitional energy resource, and it also supports the achievement of national production targets.

In addition, Pertamina is actively pursuing resource discoveries in Eastern Indonesia through seismic surveys, joint studies, and exploration drilling.

Through extensive exploration efforts, this state-owned energy company successfully identified significant new natural gas resources. At the end of 2024, the Tedong-001 Structure discovery was validated to contain 875.47 billion cubic feet of gas (BCFG), equivalent to 151.13 million barrels of oil equivalent (MMBOE), accumulated within the rock (in-place). This discovery not only boosts gas production capacity but also marks a significant milestone in Pertamina's efforts to diversify energy supplies, support sustainable energy transitions, and meet domestic energy needs.

This achievement reflects PHE’s strategic focus on managing baseline production, accelerating production growth through massive work plans, and increasing reserve and resource growth to ensure national energy security. "PHE's success in discovering these oil and gas resources is made possible with the support of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and SKK Migas. Through exploration drilling, PHE also strives to ensure the sustainability of domestic energy," said Chalid Said Salim, President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Energi.

PHE remains committed to investing in upstream oil and gas operations and business management per Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. PHE upholds a "Zero Tolerance on Bribery" policy, preventing fraud and maintaining a clean, bribery-free organization. It includes implementing the ISO 37001:2016-certified Anti-Bribery Management System (SMAP). PHE consistently pursues prudent and excellent operational management both domestically and internationally to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class oil and gas company that is environmentally friendly, socially responsible, and governed with integrity.

Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that Pertamina supports the government’s goal of achieving energy resilience and independence, in line with President Prabowo Subianto’s mission and program "Asta Cita".

"The discovery of energy resources in various regions reflects Pertamina's commitment to realizing energy self-sufficiency in Indonesia," Fadjar concluded.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
