Supporting the 2024 Ciliwung Festival, Pertamina’s Commitment to Environmental Sustainability

Depok, December 20, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) has demonstrated its commitment to environmental sustainability by supporting the 2024 Ciliwung Festival at Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII). The event concluded with a series of tree-planting activities attended by the Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, and the Director of Risk Management of Pertamina, Ahmad Siddik Badruddin, on Friday (20/12).  

Ahmad Siddik Badruddin, alongside the Minister of Environment, participated in tree planting as a tangible effort to support the Ciliwung River’s restoration. The festival, which has been ongoing since June 2024, is a collaboration between the Pertamina Group, the Ministry of Environment, and environmental enthusiasts to raise public awareness about the importance of river conservation.  

“Through this collaboration, Pertamina strives to make a real contribution to the environment, particularly in addressing pollution and restoring the Ciliwung River’s ecosystem. We fully support efforts to make rivers a vital part of civilization while advancing Indonesia’s target of achieving net zero emissions,” said Ahmad Siddik Badruddin.  

The Minister of Environment, Hanif Faisol Nurofiq, highlighted the condition of the Ciliwung River, which stretches 193 km from Bogor to Jakarta. He emphasized the importance of restoring the river to ensure a clean water supply for 31 million residents of Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek).  

“Every day, the Ciliwung River receives approximately 53 tons of domestic waste. It reflects a significant challenge that we must tackle. We highly support the initiatives led by Pertamina and hope this program can be expanded to other rivers,” said Hanif Faisol Nurofiq.  

As part of the Ciliwung Festival, Pertamina is not only focused on tree planting but also on other programs such as community education for households and students and enhancing waste management infrastructure. These efforts align with Pertamina’s vision of supporting the green energy transition and creating a cleaner and healthier environment.
