Village-Based Energy Self-Sufficiency: President Director of Pertamina Visits Desa Energi Berdikari in Bali

Jakarta, December 14, 2024 – PT Pertamina (Persero) continues its commitment to developing renewable energy utilization to support both energy and economic independence.

One such initiative is the village-based energy self-sufficiency program. Pertamina has introduced renewable energy utilization for sustainable agriculture and ecotourism through the Desa Energi Berdikari (DEB/Independent Energy Village) program at Uma Palak Lestari in North Denpasar, Bali.

In Uma Palak Lestari, Pertamina optimizes renewable energy utilization, developing solar power plants (PLTS) and micro-hydro systems with a total capacity of 21 kWp for agricultural irrigation. The irrigation system also integrates Internet of Things (IoT) technology to monitor water requirements for individual farmlands.

President Director of Pertamina, Simon Aloysius Mantiri, personally visited the Uma Palak Lestari DEB to show support for the village-based energy self-sufficiency initiative in line with the government’s strategic goals.

Vice President of Corporate Communication, Fadjar Djoko Santoso, stated that during the visit to the DEB, the President Director of Pertamina and his team also participated in planting vegetables as part of their support for food self-sufficiency.

“This program is also part of Pertamina’s support for sustainable agricultural food production, as the farming here uses organic fertilizers,” Fadjar explained.

Fadjar added that the DEB program at Uma Palak Lestari in Bali has positively impacted the local community and the surrounding economic ecosystem.

The renewable energy-powered irrigation system has been able to irrigate 103 hectares of community-owned rice fields sustainably. As a result, rice production has increased from 5.5 tons to 7.5 tons per hectare per year. This productivity boost is significant in achieving food self-sufficiency for the community.

Moreover, Uma Palak Lestari reduces emissions by 27.3 tons of CO2 equivalent per year.

“On a national scale, Pertamina has developed 149 independent energy village programs, which collectively reduce emissions by 729,000 tons of CO2 equivalent per year,” Fadjar concluded.

Pertamina, as a leading company in the energy transition, is committed to supporting the Net Zero Emission 2060 target by continuously promoting programs that directly impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievement. All these efforts align with Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) implementation across all Pertamina's business lines and operations.**
